In
diagnosing medical problems, we provide your pet with a comprehensive physical
exam. This is part of each and every visit to our hospital.
(We even provide you with an examination score card so you can keep track
of potential problems.) The other key to good medicine is listening. We take
your fears, concerns and observations seriously, and use these with our physical
exam and lab tests to form our diagnosis. A complete
lab and radiology area are essential in providing high quality health care.
Our lab allows us to perform many tests within minutes that other clinics
need to send out overnight. We do in-house CBC, complete profiles, thyroid
testing, bacterial cultures, fungal cultures, etc. Advanced testing is provided
through ANTECH labs and the Our
radiology area features a 300mA x ray machine that is powerful enough to provide
good films on all pets from the smallest kitten to the largest dog. We use an
automatic processor to provide high quality, consistent films. Our
in clinic care facility includes our isolation and cage rooms. Animals requiring
IV fluids are regulated with IV fluid pumps. We try to make patients as
comfortable as possible and minimize extra stress by giving as much TLC as
needed.
Through our
small animal surgical facility we can provide for most of your pets surgical
needs. From basic procedures such as neutering, to more intense procedures, such
as bone plating or emergency soft tissue surgery, we can handle most surgical
cases. Any surgical experience at
our hospital begins with a thorough physical exam. This is followed by any lab
tests that may be needed to pinpoint potential problems.
We require all dogs over 6 months of age be heartworm tested or on
preventative before being anesthetized. Depending on the patient’s condition,
further tests such as CBC and surgical profiles may be needed to test for
infection, anemia, kidney disease, diabetes, liver disease, etc. Most pets over
the age of 5 will require basic screening tests.
In some cases, radiographs may be needed, if indicated by history or
physical exam findings. We
have many options concerning anesthesia, and decide what to use based on: 1. Type and length of
procedure, 2. Level of potential pain, and 3. Results of physical exam and lab
tests. All patients are put on a gas
anesthesia machine and have constant flow oxygen provided during surgery. During
surgery your pet is constantly monitored using a pulse oximeter. This provides
for heart rate and tells use the amount of oxygen that is actually reaching the
tissues. We also monitor respiratory rate and may use an EKG. Depending on the
procedure, IV fluids may be required. For the
surgeries themselves, we have a
wide range of equipment and instruments from an electro-surgical
unit to bone plating
equipment. For any surgical procedures beyond
our capabilities, we refer to
one of the universities or the veterinary
specialty clinic in We are a
firm believer in providing complete pain control. This starts before surgery and
continues with take home medication in many cases. There is no need for any
animal to go home in severe pain
with the many great medications available. We
also provide basic dental services for your pets. Periodontal disease can
greatly shorten your pet’s life. We can help you extend their life by
maintaining the health of the teeth and gums. An ultrasonic scaler is use to
remove plaque then the teeth are polished. Extractions
can be performed for diseased teeth. At this time we are not providing for more
advanced, i.e. root canals, etc., but can refer you to specialists if needed. We fully
